Volker Thomas is a native of Germany and has lived in the U.S. for the last 3o years. He received an MSW in clinical social work from the University of Kassel, Germany in 1979 and a PhD in marriage and family therapy (MFT) from the University of Minnesota in 1990. Since then Dr. Thomas has taught MFT at the University of Iowa and Purdue University and has held state licensure as a LMFT in Indiana and Iowa. He is a Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Besides teaching Dr. Thomas has maintained a small private practice for the last 30 years. He specializes in emotion focused approaches in working with individuals, couples, and families. As an immigrant Dr. Thomas is highly aware of multicultural issues. Areas of specialization include play therapy with families of young children; mood disorders in adolescence and adulthood; infertility and infidelity in couple relationships; domestic violence in couples; divorce and stepfamily issues.
